Cabinet do over, make over, redo reveal!

I was fortunate to be involved in this lovely cabinet project that I posted about earlier.

Remember these?

Sorry to make you wait for the “afters”.  I hope no one has lost sleep in anticipation.

No more waiting.  Here is the amazing outcome!

Cabinets

I love before and after transformations.  Today you get a peek at the “before” of this kitchen cabinet makeover.

These cabinets are perfectly lovely but they made this kitchen feel dark and heavy.  Stay tuned for the reveal!

Stripes!

Oh, how I love contrast!

I think stripes are the epitome of contrast.  Bold or subtle, they can add interest to any room.

This is one of my favorites.

Stripes!

This fun, young ladies room has many elements of contrast to it.

Zebra stripes!

But this is my favorite!

My favorite!

A 100 year old, antique bed next to all those stripes!  Talk about contrast.

Oh, and don’t forget to notice the sky blue ceiling.  It makes me happy.

And just a peak across the hall at baby brother’s room.

More stripes!

What a fun place!

Fireplace facelift

I’m a big fan of giving things a facelift instead of ripping them out and replacing them.  Sometimes ripping things out is the right thing to do.  Old linoleum anyone?  However, “repurposing” is the buzzword of the day and I can get on board with that.

The orange tones of the wood in this fireplace and the red brick made it a bit outdated and presented a challenge for picking a new paint color for this living room.  Painting over the whole unit wasn’t an option my client wanted to consider.  They still wanted it to look like wood and brick.  I can appreciate that as well.  As much as I love paint, maybe not EVERYthing should be painted over. Gulp.

Here is the fireplace before:

Before

We decided on the lovely color of “kittery point green” Benjamin Moore HC-119 and then started thinking of ways to incorporate different tones into the fireplace that would complement the new color.

Without rambling on in more tedious detail, here is the result:

After

It looks like a different room.

This is a great fireplace in the home of a lovely family and deserved a fresh, new look.

Now it’s ready for family photos and great artwork.  Bring on winter!

Ready to paint?

Welcome to Atmospheres! We will be having a lot of fun here with all the things that are possible to do with paint. I’ll be showing before and after transformations that will change the world! Ok, maybe not but they will show the potential for improvement that exists in outdated and uncooperative home decor.

I am so excited to have a place to share all of the fun projects I’ve been involved in and the things that inspire me!  Where to start?

Above everything else, my children inspire me. They make me want to dream beyond everyday events and responsibilities. They remind me to find the fun in every moment and not take life so seriously. And they are teenagers!  So I enlisted their help in the painting of this composition entitled “Rain”.
"Rain"
It is one of my favorites and I love the way I can see their personalities come through in different places.
I’ve often said I’ll paint anything so let the journey begin! (Hopefully it will include better photography!).  I welcome anyone interested in traveling with me.
